Ukraine’s largest oil producer to double output by 2027 following permit expansions

Ukraine’s largest state oil producer, Ukrnafta, has expanded the boundaries of its existing special permits in western Ukraine, adding over 3 million tons of oil and 0.6 billion cubic meters of gas to the nation’s reserves, the company’s CEO Serhiy Koretsky reported on Facebook on April 23.

“The reason for expanding the boundaries of the special permits is to bring them into line with the contours of the productive deposits. Relevant orders have already been received from the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine,” he wrote.

In particular, the area of the first site after expanding the boundaries has increased by more than 50% and now amounts to 0.93 square kilometers. The total volume of reserves has increased by 221 thousand tons of oil and 19 million cubic meters of gas. The area of the second site has increased by a third – to 8.7 square kilometers. The total volume of reserves has increased by 836 thousand tons of oil and 402 million cubic meters of gas.

The third special permit has been increased by 36%, and the area of the site now stands at 7.12 square kilometers. The total volume of reserves has increased by over 1.9 million tons of oil and 205 million cubic meters of gas dissolved in oil.

Koretskyi also clarified that by 2023, Ukrnafta had only expanded the boundaries of the special permits twice, and last year, thanks to the expansion of the boundaries of two deposits, it increased the total reserves by 330 thousand tons of oil and condensate and 618 million cubic meters of gas.

Ukrnafta is the largest oil producing company in Ukraine and operates the national network of gas stations with 537 stations, 456 of which are operational. The largest shareholder of Ukrnafta is NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine with a share of 50% + 1 share.
