Ukraine to launch its own microchip production – Ministry of Digital Transformation

Ukraine has a groundbreaking plan to establish a network of companies for automated microchip design, projecting production of 50,000 microchips a month within three years, a government official has revealed.

Deputy Minister Valeria Ionan shared the country’s ambitious vision for microchip production at Ukraine’s Global Innovation event on Nov. 14.

“We will meet the needs of the domestic market and create a foundation for export,” Ionan said. She did not specify the exact start date for construction of the network.

She said Ukraine will create a network of fabless companies (companies without their own factory) for automated microchip design. This will enable Ukraine to enter and secure a position in the global semiconductor market.

Also at the event, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said that by 2024 the Ministry of Digital Transformation plans to develop and present a Ukrainian microchip.

He added that the ministry is collaborating with various companies in this direction, but other details are not being disclosed at this time.
