The Bulgarian Parliament has voted in favor of lifting the country’s ban on Ukrainian grain imports, local outlet News 24-7 reported on Sep. 14.
“Taking into account the solidarity of Bulgaria with Ukraine, Bulgaria does not support the extension of the emergency measure banning the import of wheat, maize, rapeseed, and sunflower from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia after September 15, 2023,” the parliament said in a press release.
The draft decision was previously approved by the Committee on Economic Policy and Innovation, causing “shock” among local farmers who do not support it.
Hungary plans to implement a full national ban on Ukrainian grain imports in cooperation with Romania and Slovakia if the EU doesn’t extend the existing ban set to expire on Sept. 15, according to Hungary’s Minister of Agriculture, István Nagy, on Sept. 13.
