Zelenskyy signs laws to step up energy generation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed new laws eliminating VAT and customs duties on importing energy equipment to boost promised energy generation capabilities.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed laws abolishing taxes and duties on the import of energy equipment into Ukraine. These laws have already been published and have entered into force.

Although they took effect on July 27, the Cabinet of Ministers still has a month to develop the necessary regulatory framework to implement the laws. Once that framework is in place, it will be possible to import energy equipment into Ukraine free of duty and VAT.

The import duties are suspended for the duration of martial law, but no later than January 1, 2026.

Formally, the legislation refers to draft laws No. 3853-IX and No. 3854-IX, which initially focused on exemptions from VAT and import duties for goods related to the production or repair of mechanized demining machines. However, these laws were amended in their second reading to include power equipment.
