More than 228,000 vehicles have been imported into Ukraine in the first seven months of 2024, marking a 14.2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The data was reported by the Opendatabot platform on Aug 2.
Used cars dominated the import market, making up 71% of all imported automobiles this year, with the average age of these vehicles being 9 years. Notably, the demand for electric cars has skyrocketed, increasing by 83%.
In total, 228,319 vehicles were brought into Ukraine from January to July 2024, up from 199,980 during the same timeframe in 2023. Of these imports, 42% were used cars that are 10 years old or more.
Kyiv registered the most newly imported vehicles at 13.7%, followed by the Lviv region with 10.2%, and the Odesa region with 7.4%.
The most popular brands among Ukrainian consumers this year are:
- Volkswagen: 25,498 vehicles (11.2%)
- Renault: 17,479 vehicles (7.7%)
- Audi: 13,173 vehicles (5.8%)
When it comes to specific models, the Skoda Octavia led the pack with 5,047 units imported. Close behind were the Volkswagen Golf with 4,965 units and the Volkswagen Passat with 4,147 units.
Gasoline vehicles remain the top choice, comprising nearly half of all imports this year. Diesel vehicles account for 27.5% of imports. Despite the 1.8-fold increase in electric car imports over the year, they still only make up 13.1% of the total newly imported vehicles.
