Ukraine launches new unique gas well under residential area

Naftogaz Group’s Ukrgasvydobuvannya put a new high-output gas well into operation, producing 274,000 cubic meters of gas more per day, Naftogaz’s official statement wrote on July 30.

This well is unique as its planned borehole is located directly beneath a residential area.

“The new well has increased daily gas production at the field by 17%,” Naftogaz Chief Oleksiy Chernyshov said. “Another well is scheduled to be operational in August.”

“Thanks to advanced drilling equipment, technologies, and Ukrburgaz specialists expertise, we managed to drill the well in just four months, reaching a borehole depth of over 1,300 meters,” Serhiy Lahno, head of Ukrgasvydobuvannya added.

Ukrgazpromgeofizyka specialists carried out complex logging operations under significant borehole angle conditions to determine the depth of gas-bearing formations.

Naftogaz holds 100% of Ukrgasvydobuvannya shares.

Ukrgasvydobuvannya launched 86 new wells in 2023, 24 of which had an initial output exceeding 100,000 cubic meters per day. They launched 36 new gas wells, 11 of which are high-output from January to May 2024.

Ukrgasvydobuvannya increased its production of commercial natural gas by 8.8% In the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 6.913 billion cubic meters.
