Revenue of top-10 Ukrainian power companies in 2023 revealed

In 2023, total revenue of top 10 energy companies in Ukraine amounted to $18.8 billion, which is 8% more than revenue of these companies in 2022, reported Opendatabot index on April 29.

According to Opendatabot Index, half of top companies in energy sector are state-owned, while four more belong to SCM Group owned by Rinat Akhmetov.

D.Trading, a part of SCM Group, has retained its position as leader for the second consecutive year. The company’s revenue in 2023 increased by 15% compared to 2022, while net profit increased by 30%. Two other companies owned by Rinat Akhmetov, Kyiv Energy Services and Dnipro Energy Services, also experienced significant revenue growth, with the latter achieving the highest profit increase among all the companies in the Index.

However, DTEK Zakhidenergo, another company in the SCM Group, saw a decrease in revenue by 16% and reported a loss of $4.1 million in 2023. The total revenue of the four companies owned by Rinat Akhmetov amounted to $6.6 billion, accounting for 35% of total revenue of top 10 energy companies in Index.

Among state-owned companies, only two managed to increase their revenue: Ukrhydroenergo by 30% and NNEGC Energoatom by 15%. Ukrhydroenergo also reported highest net profit of $436 million among companies in the Index. State-owned Ukrenergo’s revenue remained relatively unchanged at over $2 billion compared to previous year.

Two state-owned gas trading companies, Naftogaz of Ukraine and Naftogaz Trading, witnessed a decline in revenue by 4% and 9% respectively in 2023. The Kyiv Regional Energy Company LLC, owned by Nelia Kostenko, ranked at the bottom of the Index, with a 29% increase in revenue but a 25% decrease in profit compared to previous year.
